When a friend of mine returned from a week in the country, he said, “That was the worst vacation ever! It rained all week, so I was house-bound the whole time. I didn’t get to see any of the scenery or local attractions. And the accomodation was terrible — it was nothing like I expected.”
If only he’d asked for advice from the Tarot before he booked! If you have an important event or vacation to organise, check with your cards before making any important decisions. When there are many choices and variables to work out, Tarot can help you with decisions such as the best timing, location, and/or accomodation.
Here’s a simple Tarot spread that I developed recently which may help with these types of choices.
Step 1) Work out what you want to know, for example, it might be, “What should I be aware of regarding my travel plans for September next year?”
Step 2) Shuffle the cards while focusing on your question. Cut the deck (about a quarter of the way down) and turn over the top section so it is facing you. Put that whole section on the table in front of you. Make an interpretation based on the top card that is face up.
Step 3) Ask, “What else do I need to know?” Cut the remaining part of the deck (roughly another quarter of the way down) and turn over the top section. Give yourself advice based on that top card.
Step 4) You can continue asking, “What else do I need to know?” and go through the same procedure as in step 3, or you can choose to vary your question based on the previous answers.
Tip: By cutting the deck approximately a quarter of the way down each time, you won’t run out of cards too soon. But if you intuitively feel that there are not enough appropriate cards left for your reading, feel free to gather all the cards and shuffle the deck again before continuing the process.
Example Reading: A couple of years ago, I wanted to know about an overseas holiday that my family was about to go on. My question was, “What should I be aware of regarding my travel plans for October?” Here are the results…
Card 1 = Strength
Interpretation: Tame your concerns. Get the details under control and then let go and enjoy the ride.
My next question was, “What else do I need to know?”
Card 2 = Six of Wands
Interpretation: It will be a successful journey and all will be happy with the destinations chosen.
I adjusted my next question to, “Are there any challenges along the way?”
Card 3 = Six of Swords.
Interpretation: While travelling, there may be some news from home that causes some sadness.
My question then changed to, “How do we overcome that news?”
Card 4 = Five of Swords.
Interpretation: Allow time and opportunity for sadness, then continue the journey.
I then reverted to one of the earlier questions, “What else do we need to know?”
Card 5 = Queen of Wands.
Interpretation: After the issue of the previous card was dealt with, the rest of the holiday is full of energy, sunshine, and adventure.
Feedback: While we were away we learnt of the death of a friend. We took time to acknowledge his passing and then continued our travel. And we feel his death made us even more mindful of the blessings we were experiencing during our journey.
This type of reading can be done for others too — just adapt the wording. And remember to keep it simple. Follow your intuition as you pick up each card — see where it leads and adjust your reading as new lines of enquiry make themselves known to you. With this type of reading it’s not necessary to go into depth with your interpretations, just a few words will do to work out if there are problem areas that need to be explored. And if there seems to be challenges ahead, then keep choosing cards to work out what needs to be changed. Give it a go!
