Always wanted to improve your Tarot reading skills? Well, in this article I’m going to tell you how to make your Tarot interpretations a whole lot better. And it’s going to happen within one week!
I know you expect a lot of yourself. And I know you are holding yourself back from being the talented Tarot reader you want to be. We’re going to change that right now. It won’t be from a wave of The Magician’s wand — but it will be from a simple magic trick you can play on yourself. It’s a little exercise called goal setting.
Don’t yawn! I know you’ve already heard how goal setting can change your life — and maybe you’ve already tried it at some stage, and maybe it helped, and maybe it didn’t, but stay with me for a moment.
This is a new type of goal setting I want to share with you,
and it’s particularly relevant to enhancing your Tarot abilities.
Everyone realises that writing down your goals is the first step towards achieving them. But not everyone knows about the new and exciting way to get achievable and mind-blowing results.
The old way was to write down what you desired, for example, a better relationship, a new car, or a $100,000 yearly income. If possible, you found a picture of the dream goal and kept it in sight to remind you of your desire. It was also a good idea to do regular visualisations about how it felt to have this goal in your life.
In some situations, achieving a goal was accomplished by working out a series of steps for bringing it into reality. For example, during the writing of my book ‘Real Tarot’, I set myself the target of writing descriptions and interpretations of one Tarot card each night. Writing a whole book seemed daunting, but making notes about one card each evening was very achievable.
The new way of goal setting is even more effective. And by starting it today, you’ll be a better Tarot reader in only one week from now.
A Canadian business coach called Raymond Aaron teaches a system called Goal Setting M.T.O. The ‘M’ stands for Minimum, ‘T’ is for Target and ‘O’ is for Outrageous!
The Minimum is what you think you can easily manage to do, because it’s been achievable in the past. The Target is a reasonable step beyond the Minimum. It’s what you think you can do if a) you put in some effort, or b) you discover a creative a way to bring about results. The Outrageous goal is the biggie. It’s the dream. It’s what you’d really like, but have no idea how it could possibly come about.
To become a better Tarot reader your goal might be one of the following… 1) To have more knowledge of the subject 2) To have a greater understanding of the Major Arcana, or… 3) Maybe to have more confidence when doing a reading for another person.
With Raymond’s method, let’s look at the Minimum goal for each of these. Let’s work out something you can expect to be able to achieve, based on your past history.
– If you want more knowledge about Tarot, and you have already read a book or two on the subject, then your Minimum goal can simply be to finish reading another Tarot book in the coming week.
– If you want a clearer understanding of the Major Arcana, you can set the Minimum goal as reading more about those cards this week.
– If you need more confidence, get those cards out and do some practice readings for yourself in the next few days and arrange for a friend to come over for a free reading in a week’s time.
Stop reading! Grab a pen. Write down the Minimum Tarot Goal you will achieve this week. I’m serious…do it now.
Now think about your Target goal. The Minimum goal is easy, right? What would you really like to do though? – How about reading that Tarot book and then doing the exercises the author suggested? Wouldn’t it feel good to have done that? – Or set yourself the goal of reading more about the Major Arcana and then doing some meditations on each card. – Or how about doing practice readings for yourself, then arranging for a group of people to come over for a Tarot party, so you can do lots of readings and get heaps of helpful feedback?
And what about that Outrageous Goal? Think of something so outrageous you probably wouldn’t get there, but it would be something that would really give you a tremendous buzz if you managed it.
The good thing about this system is that people will begin it if their goals are achievable to start with. The Minimum goal is so easy there’s virtually no pressure. And when you start something you’ve been putting off for a while — like doing some background research on some of the cards — you get some momentum and before you know it you have books piled up around you and reams of notes in front of you, and you’re enjoying the process of discovering all this new information!
After meeting your Minimum goal, you will then feel happy enough to focus on achieving your Target goal. The pleasure you’ll feel after getting your Minimum and Target goals will then fill you with enough energy that you’ll probably attack your seemingly unattainable Outrageous goal as well.
And according to the basic principles of visualisation, once you start seeing and feeling an outcome, you’ll begin to find resources that were always there, but you never noticed them before because you weren’t fully focused on that particular goal.
Let’s get back to your Outrageous Tarot goal. – If your Minimum goal was to read one more Tarot book, the Outrageous goal might be to start a Tarot group so you can discuss Tarot books and techniques. – If your Minimum goal was to learn the Major Arcana, maybe the outrageous goal could be to write an essay about the meanings of the cards. – And if your minimum goal was to feel confident doing a Tarot reading, maybe you’ll take up a stall at a market and do readings for strangers.
Take a moment to consider your Target and Outrageous goals. Write them down now.
The M.T.O. goal setting technique keeps you motivated to do more than the Minimum, but you won’t be upset if you don’t make the Outrageous figure. However, if you have achieved the Outrageous, that means you have also done the Minimum and Target as well. That brings a triple hit of satisfaction!
I truly hope that during this coming week you are going to take on the energy of the Knight of Swords. I hope you will be decisive and ready to take steps to becoming the effective Tarot reader you want to be. If you don’t know where to begin, dust off those Tarot books that have been sitting on your book shelf and get stuck into them.
Switch off the TV, take the phone of the hook, and do something this week to turn yourself into a confident Tarot reader. It’s what you’ve been promising yourself for years. Do it this week. Do it now. I’m looking forward to hearing all about your M.T.O. goals and your accomplishments.
