I love the Three Card Spread. It’s simple and direct, yet still offers plenty of insight into your circumstances. The other day I was using the Three Card Spread and I decided I wanted even more clarification about a situation, so I created a variation on the traditional layout. It turned out rather well, so I thought I’d share it with you.
When you are using a Tarot spread, don’t feel bound to its usual setup. You may decide that an existing layout could work even better for you if you changed the wording, so experiment until it feels right. For example, a simple spread of three cards to determine past, present, and future could be reworded as, past hurts, present gifts, future rewards. There is no right and wrong for Tarot spreads.
A Tarot reading is an opportunity to discover more about yourself and your situation, so make the most of it and create a personalised spread that suits your exact needs.
You can also switch the positions of the cards within the spread. Cards in a Three Card Spread (for past, present, and future) are usually placed on the table from left to right, with the past on the left, present in the middle, and future on the right. But you might decide to place the cards in a vertical line, with past at the bottom, present in the middle, and future at the top — you can choose to do it that way!
In my variation on this traditional spread I decided to add extra places for cards, to give me more information in the layout. The standard Three Card Spread was enhanced by adding another line of cards for the following positions: the effect of the past on my psyche, the effect of the past on my present self, and the effect of the past on my future. My Tarot reading with three cards became a Six Card Spread, and it offered much more information!
Experimenting with Tarot spreads is fun. It helps you personalise your Tarot experience and you get to create a unique way of using the cards for a more meaningful perspective.
